The Arlington International Film Festival* and the Arlington High School Visual Art Department are pleased to announce the success of a unique artist's residency with American folk artist, Winfred Rembert. Mr. Rembert worked with Arlington High School students from the Visual Art, English, History and Metco Departments that occurred from March 24-28, 2014. Students had an opportunity to work side by side with Mr. Rembert on a technique he has developed to tool and dye leather. He has used this art form to illustrate scenes about his life growing up as an African American in the segregated South. Students also had the opportunity to dialogue with Mr. Rembert and to write follow-up responses to their conversations with him and to the amazing stories about his life that he told from his heart so powerfully. * About the Arlington International Film Festival
To foster appreciation for different cultures by exploring the lives of people around the globe through independent film — to nurture the next generation of filmmakers within our community.
The Festival was founded in 2010; it is registered in Arlington, MA as an organization dedicated to developing, promoting, and increasing multicultural awareness and understanding in our town and beyond. The Festival also stresses the importance of the artistic and educational value of film in this endeavor. AIFF invites progressive independent film producers and directors, from a variety of ethnicities within the US as well as beyond our borders, to participate in our annual October screenings. Local artists are especially encouraged to participate. For more info visit: http://www.aiffest.org/
